Tanzhe Temple was built in the first year of the Jin Dynasty (AD 307), the temple’s first name is “Jiafu Temple,” Emperor Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty gave it another name as “Xiuyun Temple”, but there is a pond at the back of the temple, and many cudrania trees around it,so civil people called it “Tanzhe Temple.”(just follow Chinese meaning). It has been nearly 1700 years history, even a folk say “first Tanzhe Temple, after Beijing,”
Tanzhe Temple is located at Mentougou district of Beijing, more than 30 kilometers from the city center.surrounded by nine tall peaks which are horseshoe-shaped,blocked the cold from north-west,so it is warm and humid here. There are many old trees with thousans of years history, many pagodas, the bamboo and many kinds of flower, the environment is extremely beautiful.
